Helping Others During Snowstorms

11/3/2021 (Permalink)

Snowstorm We help you, so you can help others!

Always make sure you are prepared for a snowstorm! But if you find yourself fully prepared for a snowstorm, and want to help others, we have some tips for you!

Check on your Neighbors:

As temperatures drop, check on your elderly neighbors! Older people’s bodies run colder and they are at more of a risk for hypothermia. Pop by to see if they need someone to pick up groceries and make sure they are staying warm. If they don’t need anything, it will still be good for them to interact, as it may be their only social interaction that day. You’ll really brighten their day!

Offer to Shovel Out Someone’s Car and/or Sidewalk:

Shoveling snow can be dangerous – research indicates there is a strong increase in heart attacks after snowstorms. It’s a much more rigorous activity than most realize. If your neighbors are older, offer to do it for them. You might even be saving their life!

 Donate Warm Clothing:

If you have any gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves – don’t just leave them sitting in the back of your closet. Donate them to families in need! Non-profits, homeless shelters, and thrift stores run coat drives during the winter. Help others stay warm!

 Help Feed Others:

Volunteer at a soup kitchen or donate to a food pantry! More families rely on food pantries to get them through the winter than during any other seasons. You can really make a difference, even if all you have to offer is some of your time!

Here at SERVPRO of Southern Delaware County and West Chester, we love to help. If your home suffers any damage from a snow storm, call us so we can clean and restore – and then you can spend more time helping others, as well. Call (484) 841-6669.
