10/27/2021 (Permalink)

Weather It's important to understand the terminology your weather person is using!

As colder winter months are approaching it is so important to be prepared for various winter storms and conditions. Which is why it’s so important to understand terminology being used. If your local weather channel or app is using this terminology, it means:

Winter Weather Advisory: There are winter weather conditions expected to cause serious inconvenience and possible hazard, but should not be life-threatening if you are cautious.

Winter Storm Warning: There are life threatening, severe weather conditions in your area. They have either begun or will begin in the next 24 hours.

Blizzard Warning: There are consistent winds or frequent gusts of 35 miles per hour or greater, as well as considerable snowfall or blowing snow. This will entail reduced visibility and will be prevailing for three hours or longer.

Wind Chill Temperature: How cold people and animals feel when outside. Wind increase carries heat away from the body, making you feel colder. It is not the actual temperature, but how your exposed skin will feel.

Winter Storm Outlook: Winter storm conditions are possible in the next two to five days. Stay tuned in to your local media stations for updates!

Winter Storm Watch: Winter storm conditions are possible within 36 to 48 hours. Be sure to stay informed!

When you are aware of the levels of danger you face, you can prepare appropriately! Make sure you, your family, and your pets have ample supplies and a plan in place in case of emergency.
