Take Safety Precautions

Heavy winds and rains may have caused damage that could potentially be dangerous. Collapsed roofs, window damage, collapsed walls, and standing water in your home or business may be present after a storm. Water can also soak into carpets, furniture, or building materials which can cause mold. If you smell gas, shut off your main gas line. Beware of exposed nails, broken class, or sharp objects on your property. Your safety is the most important thing! Be sure to contact SERVPRO of Southern Delaware County to help assess and restore the damages from the storm.

Photograph the Damage

If your property is safe to be on, use a cellphone or camera to document and photograph damages so that you can show your insurance company. This can help ensure that you will be fully compensated by your insurance company.

Contact Your Insurance Company

Contact your insurance agent immediately to notify them of the storm damages. The company will send out an adjustor to determine the extent of the damage so that you may be compensated.

Look Into Federal Disaster Assistance

The Federal Government may have declared your area that was affected by the storm as a disaster area. This means you may be eligible for low cost loans to help restore your property. This requires proper documentation to be filed.
