Make Sure Your Cozy Candles Don’t Cause Dangerous Fires

Be cozy and safe this fall!

The weather is getting colder and we are all decorating for Halloween in the Southern Delaware County and West Chester areas! As you put out your pumpkins and cozy blankets, you will probably also be tempted to light a candle and enjoy its warming glow. But it is so important to recognize that candles can cause fires, so use caution!

How to prevent candle fires:

• Make sure to place your candles on stable furniture.
• Be sure candles are placed out of reach of children and pets.
• Never fall asleep with a candle burning!
• Make sure wicks are trimmed to ¼ inches before lighting.
• Put out candle when leaving a room.
• Stop burning a candle when it reaches within two inches of its holder.
• Keep candles at a safe distance from holiday décor, books, curtains, blinds, flammable liquids, clothing, bedding, and lampshades.
• Be careful of your hair when near an open flame.
• Never use candles near oxygen sources, such as compressed air tanks.
